Here you can see the exceptionally beautiful Machakhela Gorge. You can walk through the villages or ride on horses and bicycles. You can visit medieval arched bridges, the longest of which is Tskhemlara Bridge (25 m long and 2 m wide). You can see castles, forests, churches and monasteries, limestone wine presses and cellars belonging to different periods of historical development. Some legends about Queen Tamar are connected with the village of Machakhela as well.
In ancient times there used to be rich smithies and forge shops in this gorge where fire-arms and side-arms were made together with household and agricultural implements. You can see a monument to the gun named “Machakhela” at the confluence of the rivers Chorokhi and Machakhela, and visit the rich Machakhela ethnographic museum nearby in the village of Chkhutuneti.
