ABOUT FESTIVAL:

In 1987, the population of the village Sarpi restored the tradition of already forgotten festival and named it Kolkhoba. Now it is annually conducted in Sarpi. “Kolkhoba” is a new name of an ancient Lazian ethnographic festival closely connected with the sea. Lazian people were gathering at the sea for swimming. According to N. Mari the mentioned festival was conducted on August 7th in the zone of Khopa-Sarpi. Theater performances were accompanied by numerous actvities thus turning into a public holiday.

Since 1987 the festival has been reviving the past of Lazian people, characteristics of relationship between Kolkheti and Old Greece and moments of visit of Argonauts in Kolkheti.
