The department of tourism and resorts of Ajara realizes different projects to favor the development of one of the most popular Eco tourism varieties in Ajara, Bird watching. With this aim special bird watching platform has been arranged and corresponding infrastructure has been developed in village Shuamta (Kobuleti Municipality). Moreover, Batumi International Birdwatching Festival has been established and promoted. Special trainings have been organized for guest house owners in villages in order to improve service quality. The department of tourism together with an international organization "Batumi Raptor Count" has conducted a special research. On results of the research benefits and perspectives of Bird watching development in the region can easily be seen.

According to statistics 113 foreign bird watchers visited Ajara in 2013 spending 1.010 nights in guesthouses in villages near bird watching points, while during 2012 the number of birdwatchers visiting Ajara amounted to 36 with 493 overnight stays. Consequently, the service cost provided at guesthouses in villages Sakhalvasho and Chaisubanni reached 44.390 GELs, other expenditures - 13.560 Gels, thus the total income amounted to 57.950 GELs while in 2012 the revenue at guest houses reached 20.105 GELs, other expenditures - 4.320 Gels with the total sum 24.425 GELs.

At the same time the most visited places have been revealed: Shuamta bird watching site, Sakhalvasho birdwatching site, Batumi Botanical Garden, Mtirala National Park, Tchorokhi Delta, Batumi Seaside Boulevard, while homemade honey, wine, Chacha and souvenirs turned out to be the most popular products to buy.

Notably, in 2012 the department of tourism and resorts of Ajara spent 28.178 GELs for favoring Birdwatching development in the region, while this sum in 2013 amounted to 15.320 Gels. Thus, the correlation between the expenditures and the results can act as one more approval of the strategy based on long-termed perspectives of Birdwatching tourism.
