This autumn, Batumi is holding its 2nd Bird Festival (3-8 September). With this event, we celebrate the importance of Batumi as a new and booming birdwatching destination. Over 1 million migrating raptors can be seen each autumn, while coastal wetlands, such as the Chorokhi delta, attract thousands of waterbirds and the Lesser Caucasus Mountains hold rare and sought-after endemics.
In 2012, the first edition was held, which attracted birders from all over Europe and the US. This year, the festival will take place during the peak migration of Honey Buzzard, when up to 170.000 individuals pass through on a single day!
